Both stores charge the same in the US: $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate (October 11, 2026). The edition is tied to your account; on PS5 you can download it on another console you sign in to with the same account.

How do you download GTA 6 on PS5?

  1. Open the GTA VI page on PlayStation Store, pick your edition and select Pre-Order.
  2. To let the files arrive on their own, turn on auto-download: Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Automatic Updates > Auto-Download.
  3. To download in rest mode as well, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and turn on Stay Connected to the Internet.
  4. If nothing started, go to Games home > Game Library > Your Collection, select GTA VI and choose Download.

The store page also requires automatic sign-in to be enabled on the console for automatic downloads. According to PlayStation, a pre-order with the setting on starts downloading as soon as the content is available.

How do you install GTA 6 on Xbox?

A game bought from the Microsoft Store installs by itself when four things are true: the console is set as your home console, it is on or its power mode is Sleep, it is connected to the Xbox network, and there is enough free space.

To install later, go to My games & apps > See all > Full library > All owned games, select GTA VI and press Install all. Games optimized for Series X|S have to be installed on internal storage or a Storage Expansion Card.

Pre-load does not let you play early; the files download and stay locked until launch. The install size has not been announced.

Can you download GTA 6 on Steam, PC or a phone?

No. Rockstar opened pre-orders for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. With no PC version announced, there is no GTA VI to download on Steam, the Epic Games Store or the Rockstar Games Launcher, and PlayStation says the game will not come to PS4.

Sites offering a "GTA 6 download", "GTA 6 APK" or "full version" file are not giving you the game: GTA 6 is not distributed outside the console stores.

How do you download a physical copy of GTA 6?

The box holds a download code, not a disc. Redeem it on PlayStation Store on PS5 or the Microsoft Store on Xbox and the game is added to your account. PlayStation codes have to match your account region; Xbox codes are not region-locked.

Can I turn the console off while GTA 6 downloads?
Do not power it off completely. Put the PS5 in rest mode with Stay Connected to the Internet on, or leave the Xbox in Sleep mode; both keep downloading in those modes.
