Putting a dollar figure on GTA 6’s development cost requires a figure for the project itself. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two’s August 7, 2026 results release gives that total. Billion-dollar estimates circulating online should therefore be treated as estimates.
Budget, sales and price answer different questions
| Figure | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Development budget | Money spent making the game |
| Marketing | Promotion costs; check whether a quoted budget includes them |
| Copies sold | Units, rather than revenue or profit |
| Retail price | The price of a particular edition in a particular market |

What about the big number in Take-Two’s outlook?
The August 7 release gives a fiscal 2027 Net Bookings outlook of $8.0–8.2 billion for the company. It is not GTA VI’s development budget or a standalone sales total for the game. The release covers a portfolio of games and services.

Can we calculate a first-day break-even point?
Not reliably from these sources. Dividing an estimated budget by a retail price leaves out the store’s share, regional pricing, edition mix and the scope of marketing costs. A precise-looking result still rests on assumptions.
Looking for the purchase price instead?
The amount you need to buy the game belongs in the buying guide. Check the edition and store for your region; a development-budget rumour cannot tell you the checkout price.
