How do you build the relationship in GTA 6?
By spending time together outside missions. According to the previews, the bond runs as its own system, separate from missions and from your criminal reputation. Exploring Leonida together, the gym, shopping, salon visits, a walk on the beach, the zoo and robberies done as a pair all feed it. Ignore your partner for long stretches and the bond stops growing, which can affect how some missions play out. Replying to the texts the two send each other is part of it too.

Is romance mandatory in GTA 6?
No. Nelson says the team wanted to offer an emotional connection to players who want one and a way to opt out for everyone else. Romance is an optional layer on top of the partnership at the heart of the story. Rockstar’s own page treats the relationship as story rather than mechanics: meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing to happen to Jason, and a life with Jason could be Lucia’s way out.
